The Metal Clay community at large* will again officially sponsor the Charms for Charity Fundraising Event.
Metal Clay artists within our own community will create handcrafted charms for bracelets and necklaces, which will be raffled to raise money for cancer treatment and prevention. Members of the Metal Clay community will donate every aspect of this project, from making charms and bracelets to designing and selling raffle tickets, so this is your call to get involved.
Last year we raised $12,270; a tremendous first time effort and we are looking for another great effort this year with the help of all of you. Read on for details.

Members of the Metal Clay community will donate every aspect of this project, from making charms and bracelets to designing and selling raffle tickets, so this is your call to get involved.

Drawing Date and Location:
PMC Conference 2010, Indiana - Lunch hour in the Dining Hall
Friday, July 30th.

All tickets will be sold prior to the conference and during registration on Thursday, July 29th ONLY. (Please note this is different from last year where tickets were sold throughout the event)
Charm bracelets will be displayed in a case at the conference for all to see. Winners of the charm bracelets will pick them up later during the event. If not present the bracelets will be sent to that party via mail.

Deadline for Charms is now through July 6 - early submissions encouraged and greatly appreciated.
The first 15 MC artists that send in their charms will have their charms photographed for the press releases, so get them in early!!!

Charms
  • - Charms can be made of any metal clay type
  • - The approximate size should be that of a dime or nickel.
  • Submit as many as you'd like or just one.
  • - Subject matter is up to the artist.
  • - A 16g - 18g 5 mm open jump ring should be attached or other strong jump ring.
  • - Include a card or note with your:
    • Name
    • Contact information (optional - sometimes people like to acknowledge your gift)
    • Picture of charm (optional - it will help identify your charm among the others on the bracelet)

Fundraising Ticket will be available shortly and will be found in the 2010 Charms for Charity Folder in the files section. On the fundraising ticket you will be able to check the box of the organization that you'd like to see the money go.

The two-part ticket has a drawing portion and a customer receipt portion. It will also include directions on it with

2 check boxes in order to choose which charity
  • American Cancer Society (ACS)
  • The Marrow Foundation
    In addition it will have:
    • Name
    • Address
    • Phone
    • E-mail
    • Amount
  • The Receipt portion will have:
    • 2 check boxes indicating the organizations name as above
    • Amount

Carol Hamilton will collect the money and the drawing portion of the tickets. She will also update us periodically as we get closer to the conference. Her contact information is:

Here's how it will work:
  • Download a ticket or tickets if you are selling a lot
  • You or the customer will check the box of the organization being donated to
  • Write a check in the organizations name
  • Paperclip the money and the ticket together
  • Gather all tickets and send them to Carol
  • Keep the receipt portion

Soon Drawing Tickets will be available in a PDF format in the 2010 Charms for Charity files folder

Individual Buyers and Sellers: Drawing tickets will be downloadable. Print and Sell as many as you'd like. As long as each ticket is accompanied by a check "written directly to the organization".

NO TICKETS WILL BE ACCEPTED WITH OUT THE FUNDS THAT GO WITH IT - THIS SHOULD PREVENT PEOPLE FROM JOINING IN ON THE DRAWING WITHOUT PAYING FOR THE TICKET.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
  • We are looking for businesses to volunteer to sell tickets.
  • We are looking for folks to make chain maille bracelets/ necklaces or donate bracelets. Last year we needed 30, this year hopefully more.
  • Make 7" bracelets with 1- 1/2" belcher chain (a piece of chain at the end for adjustability)
  • Make 20" necklaces (Carol Hamilton is already donating a crocheted necklace!)
  • The design of the bracelet is up to the artist

  • Volunteers for the bracelet making party at Holly Gage's house in PA - date to be determined (July 24th looks like a possibility) NO bracelets will be made at the event like last year since the drawing is the second day of the event and there is little time.
  • Volunteers to sell tickets. We are setting a goal of 20 ticket sales per person. (Obvious, this is just a target and even if you just sell one, it would help, and of course more would be great.)
  • Volunteers for updating last year's press releases.
  • Volunteers for distributing press releases. Once the press release is available it will be in the 2010 Charms for Charity folder files for anyone to send out that think they have an outlet that would be interest in the information.
  • Holly will also take pics of the jewelry and post in the files to go out with press releases.

PLEASE NOTE
- Volunteers for selling at the conference are NOT needed this year since raffle tickets will only be available at registration on Thursday.
